If you take nothing else away for this project, Goone wants you to know that he is NOT a frat rapper!

On this project he is raging against the machine and any labels given to him based on his look or race.  Even beyond that, he is rebelling against the redundancy that commercial radio become and what taste makers want him to make.

“Another Mac Miller, another Asher Roth, Another college kid recording on his Macintosh…”

The statements made on this album could either leave him in purgatory or propel him into stardom.  He raps on 9-5 about wasting years in school to have nothing more than debt and a piece of paper, a struggle many of us know. Narcissist is a tale of not being able to truly love and really the fear of it. Goone has taken a much darker approach this time and he admits that he was in a dark place while creating this album.  It’s apparent that he wants to convince the world and seemingly himself that he cannot and will not be what they want him to be.  Real Hip Hop is a plea to the masses to stop limiting what can be accepted as REAL HIP HOP and allow him to make music on his terms solely.

The chip on Marc’s shoulder is somewhat refreshing.  I liked his project before but I admit that all the party songs were becoming a bit redundant.  I enjoy hearing reflective and honest songs.  I hope that for the next project he is able to find a happy medium.  I truly believe Goone is one break away from being the guy you wish you knew about before he blew.  Get Familiar.

Overall, 3.5/5
